Wow, her right hand has just barely caught the water but her left is poised above already heading down for the next stroke? Looks like the left will be in the water tout de suite. |

(1) Good body line. Neck in line with torso. Lead with head. (2) Good timing. Kick timed with left foot kicking with right arm entering. Right foot to kick as right arm gets in to catch and begins pull. Appears to be kicking in shadow of body. (3) Entry arm has slid out wide to permit EVF, arm pit down, body has completed roll to right side. (4) good balance (long axis), in that there is a body roll, left shoulder is out of water, but right hand and arm oriented to pull perpendicular to the water and head has not been pulled out of line. (5) Looks like there is good front to back (short axis) balance also (with arm pit down and water level at top of head). Looks like swimmer has completed entry and stretch and is starting or about to start the catch. Maybe I'm wrong but this does not look like a sprint to me, because there is a lot of catch up in the stroke, not much splash, no bubbles at all, and the kick is not churning the water. |

When I first saw Karlyn`s wide entry in her DVD I simply didn`t like it. However I think that she exaggerates the movement in the DVD for obvious reasons. The thing is that lately I have been using a wider entry (very much like Kara Lynn-Joyce) and I feel very comfortable with it. As for her flutter kick...that is a different story. Karlyn has privileged legs and great ankle flexibility. |
