Swimming Pics of the Week - December 9, 2010

Posted by Glenn Mills on Dec 09, 2010 09:50AM (2,439 views)

This week we have photos from last week's trip to US Senior Nationals in Columbus, Ohio.

The trip started with an 8-hour delay for weather at La Guardia airport in NY.  The swimmers "weathered" the storm just fine and went on to have a very successful meet.

You guys don`t have an idea of how lucky you are having all those beautiful swimming facilities and such a great swimming organization.

Responded Dec 09, 2010 04:35PM

Sure we do. ;)

Responded Dec 09, 2010 04:47PM

Are you sure???????????

Responded Dec 10, 2010 02:28PM

OK... I'll try not to get too annoyed, but read above. Shouldn't "Sure we do" suffice that I am sure we're very fortunate to have many nice facilities in the United States? Now, if you want to read into everything, I'll give you some more insight. You used the word "lucky" in your post, and I'll go back to my standard saying... luck has nothing to do with it. Every pool that's been built in the US has been built with the blood, sweat, and tears of either the people with a passion to build that particular pool, or from the tax payers and/or students and alumni of the university that built said pool. These pools didn't just luckily sprout up, many people worked long and hard to make it happen. Our country has made a long term commitment to the sport of swimming, and while I'm very fortunate to have traveled the world and seen great, and modest facilities on every continent (except the Arctics), there are people all over the world who have made similar commitments. If you're not happy with the facilities you swim in, make something happen.

Now... does that satisfy your original question or do I need to elaborate more?

C`mon Glenn...
You simply can`t understand the dfference between a developed country and a third world country. Our most celebrated swimmers, the Poll sisters, winners of 4 olympic medals went through unbelievable efforts to achieve their dreams..as you say with blood, sweat and tears. Our most celebrated athlete, Nery Brenes, had to train bare footed before he finally was able to train in a very modest athletic facility.
We do have a commitment to our sports, not only to swimming...but after YEARS of pushing hard we finally got new blocks and lane lines.
It is another world Glenn...that we do work hard to change.

Merry Christmas.

C'mon Tomas...
You simply can't understand the difference between an athlete that reaches his/her potential no matter what the circumstances and those that are simply lazy. Facilities don't make the athletes, athletes make the athletes. And stop trying to turn the argument into something different than it is... your original comment was that we don't have an idea how lucky we are, and I simply stated that we did. Your typical gotta get the last word was simply unnecessary and annoying... yet you continue.

Go ahead... post again on this and see what happens. :)

Responded Dec 10, 2010 03:52PM

OK Glenn...I`ll stop right here.

Again...Merry Christmas.

Responded Dec 10, 2010 03:58PM

he guys.......keep the Christmas spirit!!!!!......But Glenn.....youre right....the only thing I can give Thomás is that the swimmer on the pics that splashes hereself is doing this to wake up,...."unbelievable that we have these facilities"..."let me wake up".......hahahha...it's the best I can do.....Have you ever been to Eindhoven guys>??????

Responded Dec 12, 2010 03:48PM

Haha, in Ukraine, the best Olympic pool has been converted into the parking lot for football stadium. But that did not help our football either.
